The Highway Code is available to download as an app! Now we know this isn't particularly up to the minute news.
However, many pupils revising for the Theory Test are unaware of this and one of the main complaints we hear from them is that it's 'boring reading the Highway Code'!
Well now there's an interactive app that should make learning the Highway Code a whole lot less boring and easier to remember.
Of course, it's useful for the Theory Test, learners and also full licence holders - this is because the Highway Code is
constantly updated and being aware of changes to the rules of the road is important for everyone using them.
The synopsis for the app is thus:
The new app includes the complete contents of the Highway Code with a search facility making it easy to find rules and information.
There are also interactive features like quizzes, a stopping distance calculator and a tool to help users identify road signs.
The addition of quizzes, calculators and other tools is a great way to keep learners interested in looking at the Highway Code which can only be a good thing learning.
The DSA are also hoping that the app will help reintroduce full licence holders to the Highway Code. Although the DSA advises that all road users
should stay in up-to-date with it, the majority of drivers and riders on the road today won't have looked at the Highway Code since their practical test!
It would appear that the Official Highway Code app is only avaiable on iTunes so far.
There are quite a few unofficial apps available on Android, but there is less interactivity as they only appear to provide the version of
the Highway Code you can find online or in the official book. We couldn't find any quizzes etc., which is probably where the real learning takes place.
